Abstract

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the change of coughing ability and pulmonary function after
Mechanical In-Exsufflation(MI-E) for stroke patients.
Method : This study was a case study of adult stroke patients who
were diagnosed with stroke. Intervention was performed 30 minutes a day for 5 times a week for 4 weeks. In addition,
MI-E was applied for 20 minutes per day for 3 weeks for 4 weeks.
Results : The Peak Cough Flow(PCF) increased from
170 L / min to 175 L / min compared with before intervention. FVC was increased to 1.53L after intervention, 7.1% higher
than before intervention, and FEV1 was 1.35 L after intervention, which was 18.5% higher than before intervention. MEP
increased 1 cmH2O from 45 cmH2O to 46 cmH2O, and 2 cmH2O increased from 13 cmH2O to 15 cmH2O.
Conclusion : MI-E showed an increase in PCF, FVC, and FEV1 in stroke patients. Therefore, the case of this study should be a reference for respiratory rehabilitation therapy for the removal of sputum from stroke patients in the future.
